I have to give my husband kudos for being such an amazing and thoughtful husband, father and human being. Not only does he coach our sons travel baseball team but he always makes sure that Samarra and I always feel special regardless of the countless hours of sports surrounding Trae.
For the last two years Kirk has brought home flowers for Samarra and I almost every week. Not a bouquet to share but specific bouquets selected for each of us. (On occasion he will have the assistance of our son Trae to weigh in on the selection.) Needless to say, after a long baseball tournament weekend he not only went to the grocery but he also brought Samarra and I home flowers. I received the most beautiful yellow roses and Samarra received beautiful daisy's.
The best lesson in all of this is that I appreciate him so much but most important, I appreciate him for teaching my son and daughter to cherish the people they love and that they are both cherished.
Love,

UMMA - University of Michigan Museum of Modern Art
This Friday our family hosted a client appreciation event at UMMA (University of Michigan Museum of Modern Art). We had the event catered by an amazing little place out of Dexter, Michigan called Simply Scrumptious and the food was "Simply Scrumptious!" We also hired 4 piece Jazz Band from the Community High School Jazz Program that was better than most wedding bands I've heard; these young men were so talented at such a young age. We also brought in Mark Twain for some entertainment before we had the museum shut down for our viewing only.It was nice that our son Trae took a private tour with our clients with the two docent's we procured. I received a delightful report that he asked many valid and interesting questions about each piece that was highlighted on the tour. I love that he is curious and comfortable enough to ask and enjoyed his time.
Samarra, our daughter was just as anxious to see all of the beautiful paintings and artifacts on display as she should have been as an inquisitive 4 year old little munchkin! I think her favorites were the Tiffany on display just for their name alone! LOL!
It was nice to peruse the museum at our own pace without any distractions. There were so many interesting and beautiful things to see. However, my favorites were the numerous Picasso's and the Monet that was on display. It isn't every day that you are able to enjoy such historical pieces of art!
It was such a joy to spend time with our family, extended family (our clients) and the amazing pieces of history on display. We are truly fortunate.Love,
Jessica Cassidy

FUNDS RAISED FOR LLS AND COUNTING
Not long ago I was asked how much I have raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since I started working with them in 2010 to advocate for the cause and raise awareness. It made me go back and start to think and break it down. So for those of you who are interested , here is the breakdown. I may be missing a few dollars but you can get the jest of total dollars raised.
1. $750,000.00 bequest (in which this amount will be closer to $1 million when received by LLS).
2. $250,000.00 bequest
3. $62,127.00 in cash donations raised.
4. $5,000.00 committed cash donation, just need to collect the donation for LLS.
GRAND TOTAL: $1,067,127.00 and counting for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

My Visit with Clay Spann
I mid-March I had the delight to travel to Dothan, AL to work with Clay, Terri and Joey @ Clay Spann! I was a bit nervous to work with their team but as soon as I arrived my nerves dissipated with the warm hug I received from Terri!Terri quickly started arranging all of my clothing and jewelry so she and Clay could peruse through what would work best and quickly collaborated to come up with 4 fantastic looks!
Next I was treated like royalty in Clay's famous chair. If you think about it, every International Pageants title holder has sat in his chair and now I was there too! Clay and Terri quickly started their magic and we all chit chatted and laughed about Clay's story as the "snake slayer." Amongst other funny stories!
After hair and make-up was completed we quickly started shooting the four looks. I couldn't believe my eyes when I got a sneak peak at one of the photos, I started to tear up but kept my make-up in place! Whew!
After we completed I had an opportunity to quickly meet with Joey regarding wardrobe and was quickly on a plane back home!
Overall, I was so grateful the Clay Spann Team. They are brilliant at what they do and am so grateful for the amazing photos I have for myself and the Mrs. International pageant.
Thank you so much Clay, Terri and Joey!

Josephine G. Cook Foundation
It is with great delight that I am able to continue my scholarship support with the Josephine G. Cook Foundation! This year our specific contribution is going to an amazing young lady who has raised over $30,000.00 for St. Jude's, Courtney Critz.
Courtney is a young lady I met years ago through the International pageant system and have always had a special place in my heart for this bright young lady. This scholarship couldn't have gone to a better candidate.
Congrats Courtney!!

Leukemia Research Funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Gets Infusion of Support from Startup Biotechnology Company
White Plains, NY - March 30, 2015 - A promising University of Michigan research project focused on developing new treatments for patients with a rare and lethal subtype of leukemia has received a significant boost from a recent licensing agreement with a new biotechnology company, Kura Oncology. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been funding this work, led by Assistant Professor Jolanta Grembecka, Ph.D, in collaboration with Tomasz Cierpicki, Ph.D., at the University of Michigan, since 2009.
Kura Oncology is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of precision medicines for the treatment of solid tumors and blood cancers. Kura Oncology recently completed a private placement of its common stock to investors totaling approximately $60 million. The company subsequently completed a reverse merger to become a public reporting company. The relationship among LLS, University of Michigan and Kura Oncology is the latest in a series of partnerships established through LLS's Therapy Acceleration Program (TAP) that have led to larger investments by other companies with the means to bring these therapies to patients more quickly.
The University of Michigan licensed the compounds to Kura in December 2014 after weighing offers from several potential commercial partners.
"Kura demonstrated that they had a clear market focus and the appropriate management and investors to bring these compounds into the clinic," said U-M Tech Transfer Managing Director of Licensing Robin Rasor. "Kura also agreed to support ongoing research in the Grembecka and Cierpicki labs, where continued progress is being made in further development of new therapeutics for acute leukemia."
Grembecka's research is focused on developing new treatments for patients with leukemia associated with abnormalities in the mixed lineage leukemia (MLL) gene. When another protein called menin interacts with the MLL fusion proteins encoded by the abnormal MLL gene, this results in MLL leukemias, which occur both in children and adults, and constitute 50-80% of infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia cases and 34-50% of infant acute myeloid leukemia AML cases. Grembecka's team has been working on first-in-class small molecule compounds that inhibit the menin-MLL interaction.
Patients with the MLL leukemias have a very poor prognosis with current therapies, with only about one-third of patients surviving five years after their diagnosis. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed. Conventional chemotherapies are highly toxic and not very effective for patients with MLL leukemias. The goal of Grembecka's team is to develop novel drugs that will specifically target and inhibit the binding of menin to the MLL fusion proteins without affecting normal cells.
Grembecka first received funding from LLS in 2009 through LLS's Translational Research Program (TRP), which helps advance discoveries from the lab into clinical trials. She is also a recipient of an LLS Career Development Program (CDP) award. LLS has continuously supported this work since the awarding of the first grant, and in 2010, in light of the tremendous promise of some of the small molecule compounds she was working on, transferred the project into its TAP program. TAP is designed to help research projects advance into the drug development pipeline. One of the goals of TAP is to capitalize on LLS's robust portfolio of grant-supported academic projects - particularly those that show promise of near-term clinical benefit for patients with blood cancers. Since 2009, LLS has provided Grembecka's lab more than $8 million in funding through its TRP, CDP and TAP programs.
"LLS saw the great potential of the work of Dr. Grembecka and her team early on, which is why we elevated our support through our TAP program," said Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., LLS's president and chief executive officer. "It is gratifying to see this promise recognized by those who can commit even more resources and help bring these therapies to patients more quickly. These types of agreements are further evidence of LLS's successful track record in venture philanthropy, as we anticipate these investments will enable more of our partners to surmount the investment risk threshold."
Studies of the Michigan researchers' work with these compounds were published today in Nature Medicine, and on March 26 in Cancer Cell.
